Responsible Government in Canada's Past: An Uncomfortable Quiet

March 11 marked the 150th anniversary of responsible government in Canada and I was going to write something. Then I stumbled upon Christopher Moore'sexcellent analysis in the Literary Review of Canada.

Moore is discussing John Ralston Saul'sLouis-Hippolyte LaFontaine and Robert Baldwin, atremendouslyreadable book from the Extraordinary Canadians series. If you know little about 1840s Canadian politics, you're in the majority. Not widely taught (and certainly not taught well most of the time) this seminal moment in our history deserves our attention.
